The guitarist
Santos has played guitar since 1972, when he was nine years old — the Beatles and Cat Stevens first, then rock and roll, blues, jazz, classical, baroque and flamenco. Out of all of it came a style of his own: a fusion of Flamenco, Latin and Jazz, the music of the gypsies of southern France and Spain that the Gypsy Kings carried around the world. It has an engaging intensity, and it is easy to listen to.
He plays a hand-built Spanish flamenco guitar, with a technique grounded in flamenco, classical and baroque training. With Darryl Wood, as the duo Bonacci & Wood, he sold thousands of copies of the albums Moorea and Nuevo Mundo. He was the opening act for Bill Gates’ keynote at the Comdex expo in Las Vegas in 2001, playing to seventeen thousand people, and opened for Leo Sayer at the Crown Casino in Melbourne.
